It is important to recognize the needs of the elderly and be qualified to provide competent counseling services and programs to meet those unique needs. This course will provide an in-depth exploration of the special counseling needs of the older adult. Consideration is also given to social, cognitive, cultural and economic effects of aging and how these can, in turn cause psychological problems for the elderly and how to help them cope. Emphasis will be put on the multidimensional process of physical, psychological, and social change bearing in mind that even late in life, potential exists for physical, mental and social growth and development.
