Computers contain heavy metals like lead and toxic chemicals that pollute the soil and contaminate groundwater when they are dumped into landfills. Runoff from these landfills can contaminate water used for drinking and bathing, exposing people to dangerous chemicals.

The course is concerned with safety and environmental issues related to working performed using computers. It involves teaching concepts, theories, policies, techniques, and practices to sustain the use of computers in the future. It’s clear that the acceleration of scientific achievement in the last few decades was enabled by computers. During this time significant changes have begun to occur in our natural environment as a result of technological development, social changes, and the massive production and consumption of computing equipment.
